Carmen Gray (Valencia, ES, 1989) graduated in Photography in 2010 and Art History in 2018. After completing her undergraduate studies, she established her studio in Amsterdam. In 2021, she began an MA in Experimental Publishing at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, later moving to London to complete an MFA at Goldsmiths. With photography and travel at the core of her practice, she has lived, worked, and studied across Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States. She is now based in London and part of London Art Services.

She takes photos - almost instinctively. Photography first offered a tool, while living in different countries and studying Art History became a way of gathering experiences, ideas, and material to experiment with. This lived process has formed an evolving archive of images, videos, collaborations, textiles, ceramic objects, and publications. Her practice unfolds between friends, the darkroom, and the daily return to the studio, approaching the world as an open and continuously unfolding place.

	Lesson 2 (from Burnout, 2022)

This is a digital photograph (which is quite rare in my practice) of a set-up we made in my studio in Amsterdam for the poster of the show Burnout, which I did together with Alex Z. just after the pandemic. The show brough together my ceramic ashtrays and his candleholders. The title refers to what we jokingly called “lesson 2” — the moment I accidentally set part of my studio on fire while trying to achieve a burnt paper edge effect. The result was chaotic but visually compelling, and ended up shaping the whole project. The publicatio we later made combined documentation of the works with the remains of the fire and the staged set-ups before burning them.Watch stopped working again (2024)

This is a colour darkroom print from a 35mm photograph that I shot and enlarged myself. I made two prints in this size and one smaller one — this is the best one (one of the others came out slightly too magenta). The image comes from a long-standing fixation I have with watches and time — the feeling of racing against it, and the desir to capture a precise moment. This photograph was taken on the 8th of April 2024, just after boarding a plane at Gatwick, on my way home after my brother called to say my dad was in ICU. When I looked at my watch, it had stopped. That moment — being in the air, suspended in time, holding my breath between flights — is what the image holds for me.Sasha’s Grapefruit (2024)

This is also a colour darkroom handprint, made while trying to push the scale as small as possible with the enlarger. I originally started making these small prints to
give to friends, almost like little objects you can carry — something between a photograph and a sticker. The image shows my friend Sasha’s grapefruit, which she was eating while writing her final MFA dissertation in the Goldsmiths Deptford studios, during a very hot afternoon in August 2024. The print is encased in resin, almost lik a small preserved fragment of that moment.

Felix Gumbsch is a German interdisciplinary artist based in London, graduating from Central Saint Martins with an MFA in 2025.
His practice explores lived experience, focusing on themes of upbringing, sexuality, power and control dynamics, objectification, as well as mythology and iconography. Working primarily through sculpture and performance, Gumbsch’s practice is heavily concept-based, with deconstruction and reinterpretation within a distinct visual and material language playing a central role.
Queerness and sexuality form the core themes of his practice. Gumbsch’s work is closely tied to his personal identity, and he often uses his own body as a central element, both in his sculptures and as the visual or conceptual basis of his work. He approaches these themes not only as subjects but as frameworks through which to explore intimacy, vulnerability, morality, and the negotiation of identity in public and private space.
He is often using ambiguity as a strategy to create space for layered interpretations and to resist fixed readings, also allowing the viewer’s experience and context to play an active role in meaning-making.With a background in fashion and culinary arts, materiality plays a central role in his process. Texture, tactility, and visual presence are used intentionally. He engages with the cultural and historical associations of materials, either aligning with or subverting their established meanings.

Her painting practice transforms archival materials, everyday objects, family histories, and intimate memories into ghostly presences, bridging multiple temporalities to create a space in which alternative forms of dialogue can emerge. Drawing on the visual language of Victorian spirit photography, her paintings employ a semi-photographic, semi-painterly approach to construct a phantom realm where everything oscillates between truth and falsehood, certainty and uncertainty, history and memory.
Her ongoing research is grounded in her experience of growing up in Northeast China and spending much of her young adulthood living abroad. Through this migratory bird-like position of distance and return, she revisits the historical and contemporary landscape of the region as a threefold borderland (a geographical, cultural, and historical frontier). Lyu focuses on investigating the condition of being marginalised and displaced, the gaps and omissions within authoritative, power-dominated historical narratives, as well as the moments when nostalgic recollection ceases to function. By conjuring the “ghosts” of history, her work reanimates a seemingly fossilised past, offering alternative ways of perceiving both the past and the present.

Artist’s statement:
This body of work examines the history of China’s Four Pests Campaign of the 1950s an my grandmother’s recollection of her experience of the Korean War, focusing on the
sparrow, a species long embedded in urban life of northern cities, and its mas extermination during the first state-led campaign. The spectral presence of sparrows is juxtaposed with archival imagery of B-29 bomber deployed in daylight bombing missions during the Korean War. Continuing my practice of mixing specific historical events with fragmented memories, I treat the sparrow as a recurring ghost. In Manchu shamanic traditions, sparrows ar understood as spiritual birds that summon back the lost spirits of children; here, they become agents that pierce the veil of time, reanimating histories that remain unspoken.

Jonathan Tignor (b. 1997) is a Tucson-based artist originally from Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Colorado College with a BA in Creative Writing and completed a Post-Baccalaureate in Studio Art at the Burren College of Art in Ireland. Most recently, he earned an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2024. Tignor has shown with OHSH Projects, Chilli Arts, and Twilight Contemporary in London, as well as Bonian Space in Beijing and Pigment Gallery in Barcelona.

Jonathan Tignor views painting as a means of exploring the images upon which a contemporary-yet-mythical sense of American identity is built. He is interested in the gaps between real and imagined - how the real becomes imagined, and vice-versa. In rendering these images, Tignor looks for material resistance between paint and surface in order to introduce both tension and unexpected moments. The resulting visual narratives aim to guide viewers beyond an immediate and self-referential experience, and instead into a slow and critical way of seeing.

Lucy Hutchings (b. Hong Kong, 2001), is a British painter based in London, England. She studied her BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Leeds Art University (2022) before completing an MA in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School (2024). Lucy is the recipient of the Harriet Anstruther Prize 2024 and is a shortlisted finalist for the Ingram Prize 2025.

“My painting practice explores the human condition through themes of gluttony and debauchery. The figurative paintings are environments where we transition into something unconditioned, often located in beer gardens or nightclubs. I understands these third spaces as a stage to participate in laughable, creative and transgressive characters, pulling imagery from personal or shared experiences of debauchery to turn these familiar environments into unsettling and carnivalesque narratives. Mikhail Bahktin's theory of the mouth plays an important role in my paintings, exploring the open and penetrative as a visual device to exaggerate the vulnerability of merging or sharing the body’s boundaries. Orifices, bodily fluids, laughter and pain are subjects to push and pull compositions that are both pleasurable and grotesque, seductive and repulsive.”

to it with urine, beer and staining, as well as the euphoric glow of golden hour. In

This painting is part of a series of works on paper exploring gatherings in beer
gardens and smoking areas, which later informed a larger body of work for Lucy’s
Masters Degree show. The characterisation of the figures, and their presentation
within the scene, draws inspiration from the compositions of early 13th century
frescos and medieval manuscripts.

Mae Nicolaou (b. 1997, Dublin, Ireland) is a visual artist based between London and Ireland. She
holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London (2025).
She was awarded the Graphic
Studio Dublin Expanded Print Residency (2026), a Postgraduate Fellowship in the Fine Art
Department at Goldsmiths (2025), the CASS Material Award (2025), and the Emerging Artist
Bursary from DLR County Council (2024). She was also shortlisted for the ACME Studio Award
(2025) and the QEST Emerging Maker Grant (2024).
In 2021, she received the Graduate Studio Bursary Award for a Sculpture Workshop Residency at
Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin. Her work has been featured at the Dublin Art Book Fair
(2024) and published by A6 Books at the London Centre for Book Arts (2025).
Her work, which oscillates between the figurative and the supposedly functional, finds its centre in
the margins. Mae is interested in the representation of people engaged in the quotidian, choosing experience over reference as a methodology. Her practice examines how often
overlooked accompaniments of everyday life are gathered, handled, and redistributed. She
collects and selects materials to produce unconventional inscriptions of contemporary life.
Through her practice, she seeks to emphasise the distinction between the analogue and the digital not as something purely ontological, but as something that registers through degrees and shifts in scale. Her processes remain tied to the limitations and materiality of the human body. The works can be read as embodied forms rather than visual representations, due to both the physical activity required to make them and the indexical traces of human culture they carry. With a reliance on lived experience, the very make-up of these traces turns on marking difference. These deliberate processes, developed specifically for her practice, enable her to activate her thoughts and ideas.

Interview with Miya

Miya Kosowick is a half-Japanese Canadian artist based in London, United Kingdom. She holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of British Columbia and later studied at Chelsea College of Arts, where she began developing an interdisciplinary practice spanning painting, sculpture and installation.
Kosowick’s work explores identity, belonging and the shifting relationship between controlled and natural environments. Drawing on the Japanese philosophical concept of uchi-soto (内外)- meaning “inside” and “outside”- her practice examines how boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, social groups and cultural identities are constructed and negotiated. She is particularly interested in the spaces that exist between such binaries, where ambiguity and transformation can emerge.
Working with materials including rice paper, wax, canvas, wood and found objects, Kosowick creates installations in which paintings function as portals to imagined worlds. Sculptural elements and fragments of material histories often coexist within these environments, blurring distinctions between the natural and the constructed.
Her muted colour palette draws from the landscapes of her upbringing across British Columbia, Japan and the United Kingdom. Through restrained abstract and figurative gestures, Kosowick produces works that resemble fragile archaeological traces - memories suspended between past and future.
Kosowick received the first annual artist commission from The Glenrothes, and continues to expand her practice through installations and cross-disciplinary collaborations that connect art, space and sensory experience.

You walk on desire
2024 Oil on Canvas

	About: You walk on desire
This painting is inspired by desire paths, the informal routes created by people and animals through trampling an alternative path over the rigid logic of formal urban planning(think shortcuts across a field rather than using the pavement). These organic lines reflec a quiet resistance to imposed structures, revealing how collective behaviour can reshape designed environments. The grid of yellow blocks and straight lines suggests the language of maps, infrastructure, and controlled systems. In contrast, the glowy curved lines andfigures stepping beyond these boundaries propose alternative networks, softer, adaptive pathways. The fragmented text “you walk on desire” reflects my interest in how languageoperates visually. By disrupting the phrase across the surface, I want to loosen fixed meaning and allow associations to form intuitively, much like desire paths themselves.

About: Through the shoji screen
This work explores my interest in the Japanese concept of uchi/soto, the distinction between inside (uchi) and outside (soto), which describes not only physical space but als social relationships. The painting depicts two hunched figures turned away from the viewer, positioned beneath a subtle grid sealed in wax. As viewers, we occupy the positio of the outsider, looking in as if through a shoji screen, observing a space we cannot fully enter. The work extends beyond painting into sculpture. It is supported by handmad plasma-cut steel brackets which have naturally rusted over time. These supports act not only as functional elements but as temporal markers, their slow oxidation suggesting the passage of time and material change. In contrast, the figures appear suspended in a moment of stillness, held within a liminality.About: Fence
Painted in gouache on delicate washi paper, this work reflects my ongoing fascination with Western domestic architectural features, particularly the Victorian iron fences commonlyfound bordering terraced houses. The fence appears slightly bent and irregular, reflecting its origin as a study of a sculpture I previously welded. In that sculptural work, intentionally introduced subtle distortions, making the form appear slightly “wrong” or unsettled. This gesture became a way of thinking about belonging and authenticity, the tension between imitation and misalignment when attempting to fit within an unfamiliarcontext. Translating this form into paint on fragile washi paper introduces another layer o vulnerability. The material contrast between the implied strength of iron and the delicacy of paper mirrors ideas of stability and fragility, permanence and transition.
