Apolline Regent is a French multidisciplinary artist living and working between London and Paris. She studied in various art schools, starting in the south of France (Sète), passing through its centre (Bourges) for her bachelor and finally arriving in London (Goldsmiths) while juggling with Beaux-Arts of Paris for her masters.
Apolline brings an eye and performs a move on our relationship to the world, food, objects and way of living.
She feeds herself on the things around her and renders them through different mediums.
Apolline Regent's works hover in a constant oscillation between the signifier and the signified. Softly mocking our relations with the image, the language, and the mystified layer of the world of symbols that lies in between. Her imagery is a swift stroke of the brush, a scribbled word, a sweaty shirt. While an object gets flattened out onto the epidermis of the canvas, its symbolic power becomes evident to us, swiftly dissected and carefully arranged. Painting becomes sign, sign becomes object, word becomes landscape.
