Abi Joy Samuel is an interdisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture and photography. Her practice explores womanhood through the female gaze, painting her own body as subject rather than symbol, often in private spaces and quiet moments. Working in oils, acrylics, pastels and charcoal, she builds semi-abstract compositions from film footage of her body in motion, where dance and gesture become tools of investigation.
Alongside painting, her sculptural practice is rooted in salvaging and its transformation. She collects fragments of cars, hardware and discarded materials, dissecting and reassembling them through bricolage. This resourceful approach reflects her diasporic identity and belief in finding meaning in what’s left behind. Samuel has exhibited in the UK and USA. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art with distinction in 2025 and is currently undertaking an MA in Sculpture at the RCA where she is a recipient of the Leverhulme Arts Scholarship.
