Aziah James Lusala is a London-born multidisciplinary artist and recent Graduate Diploma Fine Art graduate from the Royal College of Art, where he is currently pursuing an MA in Contemporary Art Practice. He is also a participant on the Turps Banana Offsite Programme this year. His practice is rooted in social justice, centring the dignity and visibility of marginalised communities shaped by systemic inequality and life at the margins. Working across film, sculpture, and painting, Aziah challenges reductive narratives, instead illuminating the resilience, loyalty, and humanity within these lived experiences. Informed by firsthand encounters with the carceral system, his work carries rare integrity and urgency. Themes of survival, identity, and representation under pressure are explored with nuance and compassion, creating space for empathy, reflection, and recognition.
Aziah’s work has been shown at major venues including HSBC HQ, the Saatchi Gallery, the Barbican Centre, and the Southbank Centre. Guided by the belief that to create is to honour, to represent is to uplift, and to worship is to give, his practice frames art as an act of care and resistance.
