Beatriz Santos (b.1996, Lisbon) is a neurodiverse British-Portuguese artist, working predominantly with oil painting, printmaking, and assemblage. Her work weaves lyricism into depictions of personal, everyday subjects while exploring themes of memory, intimacy, humor, sadness, and longing. Frames are essential to her practice and are treated as an integral part of the artwork. She works mostly with materials considered ordinary—such as recycled cardboard and found objects—as sustainability is important to her artistic approach. By framing her own paintings in elaborate and inventive ways, she aims to question binaries such as fantasy and reality, inside and outside, narrative and decorative, manual craft and intellectual art.
Having completed an English BA at Clare College, Cambridge, Beatriz went on to study Art History at The Courtauld Institute of Art. This year she has received a Painting MA (distinction) at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. She is the winner of the 2023 Richard Ford Award and the 2024 Dolbey Travel Award. Beatriz will be exhibiting with 11 Contemporary Art Gallery in China, in December 2024, and will be represented by ArtULTRA at the London Art Fair early next year.
